The New MacBook Air
I spent today at the Apple Store looking at the new MacBook Air's. The new MacBook Airs are an amazing piece of technology. For the price and portability, I think 11" versions are a winner. If you really need the size, processing power, and price of the 13", I think you should consider either the MacBook or MacBook Pro's. Even the $999 regular MacBook has more processing power and storage than any MacBook Air, but is nearly 2 lbs heavier than the 13" MacBook Air and 2.5 lbs heavier than the 11" MacBook Air.
If you are considering a top of the line iPad, I would rather get a low end 11" MacBook Air instead. You get a full computer that is not much heavier or bigger than an iPad.
The MacBook Air's are constructed with a solid uni body aluminum case. They are very well constructed with a solid feel to them, unlike cheap plastic laptops that are the norm for today. You have to hold these in your hand to know what I'm talking about. It's amazing that there is so much computing power in something so small, light, and thin.
They all have a solid state drive and feature "instant on". Since there is no hard drive to spin up, they start immediately from sleep.
It is so enticing, I'm really wanting to buy one. I know I can get a lot more CPU, memory, HD space, etc., but we are buying a computer, not pieces of a computer. The form factor means, I would take this with me a lot more often than a conventional 5 lbs. notebook.
